I just picked up a dirty sock off my floor, and a small, brown, maggot-like worm fell out on to my leg. How disgusting is that? I flicked it away, but now I can't find it. Now I'm paranoid about maggots hiding in my clothes. I think it's a good time to do laundry.....

Just so you won't be paranoid. What was thought to be a maggot in your sock is not. It's called a "silver-fish" sometimes you will find them on old stuffed animals or is dusty places. They die fast. Unless there was a month old cheesburger in your sock also, it was prob. not a maggot.
